Information contained in directory records
UbumWi creates and maintains directory records using information supplied by users and organisations, together with information obtained from publicly accessible sources and other recorded sources.
A directory record may contain an organisation or business name, category, location, website, public contact information, the names and professional roles of representatives, source information and other information relevant to discovery through UbumWi.
Where this information identifies an individual, it is personal information. UbumWi processes this information for its legitimate interests in:
making African and Caribbean diaspora businesses, people, organisations and institutions easier to discover;
maintaining an accurate and useful directory;
enabling organisations to claim, correct and manage their records;
preventing duplication, misrepresentation and misuse; and
protecting the integrity of the platform.
UbumWi considers whether this processing is necessary and balances its interests against the rights and reasonable expectations of the individuals concerned.
Public availability does not by itself constitute consent, confirmation or verification.
Sources
Directory information may come from an organisation’s public website, an official register, a public professional profile, information supplied by a partner or representative, or another publicly accessible source.
Where available, the source and ingestion method are recorded against the relevant record.
Your rights
If your personal information appears in a directory record that you did not create, you may ask us to:
provide access to the personal information we hold about you;
correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
restrict or object to our use of the information;
remove information where applicable; or
explain its source and how it is being used.
Send requests to dpo@ubumwi.com and identify the relevant record. We may need to confirm your identity or your relationship with the organisation before changing a record.
You may also submit a correction through the correction or claim process shown on the relevant record. Exercising these rights does not require you to purchase a service.
Where the UK GDPR requires us to provide privacy information directly after obtaining personal information from another source, we will do so within the applicable period unless a lawful exemption applies.
You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office if you are dissatisfied with how we use your personal information.
